Das Internet ist gegen Beschneidung - Eine Kontroverse zwischen Mark Joseph Stern (slate) und Brian Earp
-
-

ZitatThere is already a vaccine more effective than the flu shot at preventing HIV. It’s called circumcision. Research suggests circumcision reduces the risk of HIV acquisition by 60 to 70 percent over the course of one’s lifetime (if you’re straight, at least)—unlike a condom, which must be used properly during every sexual encounter. And while HIV-prevention circumcision drives are catching on in Africa, the circumcision rate in the United States is dropping dramatically. (This phenomenon is due in part to angry, though discredited, “intactivists.”)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Plotz

ZitatIntactivists, in short, are winning the online battle. Is it only a matter of time until they win the greater war?

Brian Earp schreibt:
Zitat"So please, Slate (and Mark Stern if you’re reading this), I respectfully submit that the foreskin is not a birth defect. Neither is it a congenital deformity or genetic anomaly akin to a 6th finger or a cleft. Neither is it a medical condition like a ruptured appendix or diseased gall bladder. Neither is it a dead part of the body, like the umbilical cord, hair, or fingernails.
The foreskin is not "extra skin." The foreskin is normal, natural, healthy, functioning tissue, with which all boys are born; it is as intrinsic to male genitalia as labia are to female genitalia."
https://docs.google.com/document/d/10G…bilebasic?pli=1
Zitat"My best guess is that your views on circumcision are rather heavily informed by (and perhaps even constrained by) the default norms of American society, which sees non-therapeutic genital cutting* of boys to be an unremarkable affair. Your mostly-American readers, therefore, may happily lap up your attack on “intactivists” as being right on the money. But the US has a very strange history in adopting circumcision as a cultural norm; circumcision has become uniquely and unthinkingly embedded in American medical practice; and the rest of the developed world views us** with a mix of curiosity and disbelief. Why do Americans continue to circumcise their sons? It is not exactly crazy to take this question seriously.

ZitatMany parents are taking the approach, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." While it is true that a minority of infants later require surgeries, most don't and live their lives just fine. Seventy percent of the men in the world are not circumcised nor suffering from the fact that their penises remain intact.
Think again Mr. Stern. It's not circumcision that broke the Internet, but rather the Internet that helped break the silence about circumcision. If you think that there is too much information out there about the reasons not to circumcise, you and like-thinkers should get busy explaining the pro-circumcision arguments. -

Zitat
The only bright-line rule I can promulgate: If you’re writing about circumcision, prepare for an influx of PURE, RAW HATRED.
