Doctor cleared after complaint over Orthodox Jewish practice of sucking blood from baby’s penis at circumcision

ZitatYou can’t convince anyone with the facts.”
“They always ignore all medical evidenceSo Quark.
Zitat
Regarding the concerns raised by human-rights advocates about the ethical implications of forced infant circumcision, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has responded by saying that the college is “not the proper forum for addressing the issue of male circumcision.” Surely the college recognizes that all physicians practising medicine in Ontario have a moral responsibility to uphold the ethical principles of our profession, independent of their own religious or cultural views. The surgical removal of healthy, functional genital tissue from powerless infants is a clear violation of medical ethics and should be addressed by the college.
Forced infant circumcision violates the ethical principles of patient autonomy, proportionality and primum non nocere, and it constitutes a gross violation of the child’s fundamental human right to physical integrity. Physicians must recognize that the child is the patient, not the parents. When he is older, he can decide for himself if he would like to remove part of his genitals for religious reasons.
