Restloss begeistert war in den letzten Tagen nicht nur die englischsprachige Presse, nachdem die WHO der PrePex-Klemme der israelischen Firma "Circ MedTech Limited" als erste und einzige Beschneidungsklemme ihren offiziellen Segen erteilt hat.
"The device, known as PrePex, is the only adult circumcision method, other than conventional surgery, to gain W.H.O. acceptance. Dr. Eric P. Goosby, the United States Global AIDS Coordinator, said that it would “truly help save lives” and that he was prepared to use funds from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief for it."

Vorteile von PrePex sollen sein: unblutig, die Vorhaut stirbt ab, nekrotisiert; jeder Dödel jede Krankenschwester kann sie anlegen; verwendbar auch in entlegenen Gegenden ohne medizinische Unterstützung (z.B. in einem Zelt).

Schauen wir uns die WHO-Zulassung von PrePex einmal an.
"The device should be used only in settings where suitable surgical facilities and skills are available within a short time frame (6-12 hours) in order to manage potentially serious complications resulting from device displacements."
Also nicht allzu weit weg vom Krankenhaus.
"Males 18 years and older; without contraindications to conventional male circumcision surgery, and additionally, without contraindications specific to PrePex device: including phimosis, narrow foreskin, tight frenulum, adhesions."
Da sollte die Krankenschwester schon genau hinschauen.
"If there is a displacement of the device with ir without oedema, the patient should return to the clinic as soon as possible where the provider may recommend surgical circumcision to avoid serious and possible life threatening infections."
Also immer schön auf den richtigen Sitz der Klemme achten, sonst kann es tödlich verlaufen. Es lag dann aber entweder an dem dummen Patienten bzw. an der Infektion. Keinesfalls an der Klemme.

Die drei für die Zulassung bei der WHO gemachten Studien verliefen erwartungsgemäss ( nahezu) komplikationslos. Kein Wunder bei entsprechender Begleitung der Studienteilnehmer. Lassen wir uns überraschen, wie PrePex im Alltag funktioniert.
Ob die Klemme tatsächlich wie behauptet billiger als eine herkömmliche Beschneidung, ist umstritten. Kommt drauf an, wie man rechnet.

Ihre Felle davonschwimmen sehen jetzt die Hersteller konkurrierender Klemmen, die ja auch schon eine Menge Geld in Studien gesteckt haben, z.B. Alisclamp.
