In Sierra Leone sind nach verschiedenen Untersuchungen 88 % [UNICEF 2011 wie auch 2013] oder sogar 91,3 % [gemessen 2008 an Mädchen und Frauen unter 50 Jahre] genital verstümmelt. Nach dem Volksglauben bringen Individuum wie Kollektiv mit der FGM der Fruchbarkeit ein Opfer dar, auch wird die offensichtlich unerträgliche Ambiguität der Geschlechter [Anm.: die Klitoris gilt in Teilen Afrikas als maskulin oder könnte gar zu einem Penis heranwachsen] endlich klargestellt. "Die Klitoris deiner Mutter ist so lang wie eine Grün-Schlange" taugt trefflich zum Beleidigen und muss, um die Ehre zu retten, unverzüglich mit Kampf beantwortet werden:

The WHO's Type Ia is the removal of the clitoral hood, which is rarely, if ever, performed alone. More common is Type Ib (clitoridectomy), the partial or total removal of the clitoris and clitoral hood.

Die Forderung nach legalisierter FGM auf eigenen Wunsch (Mädchen-Wunschbeschneidung) ist leider genau die Moral der norwegischen Kinderwunschbeschneidungsterminaushandlerin Anne Lindboe, endlich sei der Junge ganz genitalautonom:

Und das ist auch die kinderfeindliche (Kind = Mensch unter achtzehn Jahre, s. u. bei Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) / Konvention über die Rechte des Kindes) und schlicht verfassungswidrige Ethik gerade des alternativen Gesetzesvorschlags von 2012, nach dem der Junge in sein genitales Verstümmeltwerden autonom einwilligen dürfen sollte: Bundestagsabgeordnete Marlene Rupprecht, Giordano Bruno Stiftung, MOGiS usw. usw. fanden das allen Ernstes unheimlich prima und hätten sich, Gleichberechtigung der Geschlechter, eigentlich auch für für das Recht des vierzehnjährigen Mädchens auf Klitorisamputation stark machen müssen.
Nein und nochmals nein zum Lobgesang dieser Jahre (einschließlich Boulder / Colorado 2014) auf die genital autonomy bzw. zum consent, wenn dadurch die genital intactness des Minderjährigen mit lebenslangen schweren Folgen gesetzlich abgesichert kapputtgehen darf.
Es ist unumgänglich, innerhalb von Typ I der FGM-Klassifikation zwischen Ia (Klitorisvorhautamputation) und Ib (Klitorisamputation) zu unterscheiden, um endlich die unbequeme Wahrheit auszusprechen: Klitorisherauschneiden (FGM Typ Ib) und Präputium-Amputation (MGM) schädigt die sexuelle Sensitivität lebenslang gleich schwer.

Jungen von heute haben so was von Durchblick, erklären wir sie für einwilligungsfähig. Was darf's denn sein bitte? 16 Jahre, 14, zwölf oder zehn Jahre? Unter Politikern, Religionsführern, Schönwetter-Kinderrechtlern und Als-ob-Intaktivisten beginne das Feilschen um die Altersgrenze:
Consent for any procedure is valid only if the person or people giving consent understand the nature and implications of the procedure. To promote such an understanding of circumcision, parents and children should be provided with up-to-date written information about the risks.
Die Frau muss Initiierte sein, nach Beschneidung aufgenommen in den Bondo (andernorts in Westafrika auch Bundu), den Geheimbund der Frauen (der entsprechende Männerbund heißt Poro). Eine Unbeschnittene wollte Politikerin werden - und hatte in den Bondo initiiert zu werden das heißt sich beschneiden zu lassen. Eine Nicht-Initiierte (a non-initiate) soll ausgelacht sowie als unreine Person und promiskuitiv beschimpft werden:
Although there are different types of FGM, in Sierra Leone it mostly means the removal of the clitoris and the labia minora [d. i. Typ II]. ... Brima decided to undergo FGM because she wants to be a politician.
‘I was laughed at. I was called names such as an unclean person, a non-initiate, a promiscuous woman,’ she says. ‘Besides I realised that I will never become a successful female politician if I am not a member of the society. I must be a part of it to get the vote of the majority of traditional people.’

Gerade in Sierra Leone sind die Geheimbünde der Bundu (Bondo) politisch ungeheuer mächtig, auch parteipolitisch bzw. wahltaktisch.
It is difficult to stop FGM when it remains popular with most women in Sierra Leone and is seen by the government as a vote winner. Noting that Patricia Kabbah, the late wife of President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah, had sponsored the circumcision of 1,500 young girls in the presidential election, and other politicians had organised smaller initiation campaigns to gain popularity in virtually every district of the country ... Shirley Yeama Gbujama, the Minister for Social Welfare, Gender and Child Protection, has made it clear that the passage of such legislation was not a priority. "We will do something if the women themselves ask for it," … Nine years ago, when Gbujama was foreign minister, she spoke out publicly in support of female circumcision after two local newspapers published a series of articles condemning the practice.
David Tambayoh, one of the journalists behind the 1996 press campaign against FGM, recalled that hundreds of women circumcisers staged
protest demonstrations at the time, and presented a petition supporting FGM to President Kabbah. He noted that Gbujama had threatened to "sew up the mouths of those preaching against bundu", while Kabbah had expressed support for the secret societies, saying he was "from a traditional background."
