Circumcision is not a cake-walk. It has ruined some forever and, in some cases, led to avoidable deaths. The more common complications are bleeding after the procedure and injuries to the penis. Bleeding can be significant and should not be treated with levity because the blood volume of a week-old child is so small and blood loss, enough to soak through a diaper, is indeed a large volume of blood. Sometimes, the penis has been cut off at its tip and sometimes at the base of the head, called the glans. Sometimes, other injuries occur that subsequently require very expensive efforts to repair and with no guarantee of ultimate success.
