The long-awaited bill to protect girls from female genital mutilation now just needs the Queen to sign it into law.
Tory MP Zac Goldsmith’s FGM bill passed the Commons last night after Sir Christopher Chope had delayed it last month on a technicality.

Richmond Park MP Goldsmith slammed those who compared FGM to male circumcision, he said: ‘It must be obvious that it doesn’t compare with FGM.
‘The male equivalent with FGM would not be circumcision – it would be removal of the entire head of the penis and much of the shaft as well.’
Labour MP Sarah Champion said: ‘Male circumcision is rarely if ever done to subjugate the boy, whereas this very clearly done to end sexual pleasure for women.
‘There is no religious or cultural justification for this crime, it’s child abuse and creates lifelong medical issues.’
Tory MP Simon Hoare said: ‘If this was a male issue it would not have been tolerated for as long as it has been.
