The question is whether to circumcise a 10-yr-old boy with
phimosis but without urinary tract infection (UTI). The
answer is, of course not.
In general,
any prophylactic measure must fulfill the following high
standards that do not apply to prophylactic circumcision in
a healthy boy:
The treatment must prevent a severe disease.
The treatment benefit for the patient must exceed possi-
ble treatment risks.
There must be a need to perform the treatment in an age
group unable to provide consent.
There are no less invasive interventions providing the
same health benefit.
