    • "The only reason we did it was because his dad was"

"The only reason we did it was because his dad was," Emma from Warwick in Queensland says.
Emma says she regrets circumcising her son. After doing more research, she feels it is a form of body shaming
Although medical complications from circumcision are rare, Emma's son has had repeat surgery to address difficulties as a result.
"I should have done more research and realised it's a big procedure — just for the sake of trying to make him look like dad."

A common motivation for parents is for the son's penis to look the same as their father's.

The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand, and state health departments have all concluded the risks of circumcision performed for non-medical reasons, including preventing future diseases, outweigh the benefits.

:cursing:

Dr Amy Moten, GP and chair of the the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), says there is "no evidence to show psychological harm to a child from not having the same penile appearance as their parent".
"The reality is that the pre-pubescent genitals of any gender will look different to their adult parent.
"Children will often express mild curiosity, for example the presence of pubic hair in their parents, but rarely focus on this."

"You need to have a solid, reasonable, scientific and convincing excuse either way."
