      Anders als es die patriarchalen Weltsicht so mancher Feministinnen vorgibt, sind es in Ägypten zumeist Frauen, die den Eingriff, der an ihnen selbst vorgenommen wurde, auch bei ihren Töchtern wünschen. Kontroverse Diskussionen im Internet sind nicht repräsentativ für die noch immer weit verbreitete Tradition der weiblichen Genitalverstümmelung. Wenig überraschend, sind die Parallelen von vorhautamputierten Männern ihren Söhnen gegenüber in entsprechenden Kulturen augenfällig.

    • Die patriachale Weltsicht besagt, dass die Frauen das nur in vorauseilendem Gehorsam tun, um ihren Töchtern Chancen auf dem Heiratsmarkt zu sichern. Sie werden sozusagen gezwungen, es selber zu wollen. Dass es zwar vielfach eher Männer sind, die sagen, von mir aus bräuchte meine Tochter das nicht, passt da halt nicht in das Weltbild. Wobei man natürlich sagen muss, dass die regionalen und kulturellen Unterschiede und Formen so groß sind, dass es vermutlich beides gibt. Fest steht für mich aber, gegen den Widerstand von Müttern würde FGM fast nirgends vollzogen.
