In seinem neuen Jahresbericht 2012 stellt UNAIDS ( das HIV/AIDS-Programm der Vereinten Nationen) erfreut fest:
"In the last ten years the landscape of national HIV epidemics has changed dramatically, for the better in most countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Countries are making historic gains towards ending the AIDS epidemic: 700 000 fewer new HIV infections across the world in 2011 than in 2001."
Verantwortlich für diese Entwicklung ist laut UNAIDS die antiretrovirale Therapie.
"Sustained investments in access to antiretroviral therapy by donors and national governments have led to record numbers of lives being saved in the past six years. In 2011 more than half a million fewer people died from AIDS-related illnesses than six years earlier. It’s a dramatic turning point."

In dem gesamten Bericht ist an keiner Stelle von Beschneidung die Rede. Stattdessen müssen wir lesen, dass in Ländern mit flächendeckender Beschneidung HIV die grössten Steigerungsraten hat.
"In the middle East and North Africa, the number of people newly infected with HIV increased by 35% between 2001 and 2011, and the rate of new HIV infections continues to rise in Eastern Europe and Central Asia."
